Biography:

This is one of the greatest female rivalries and revenge stories of the bunraku and kabuki stages. Iwafuji, a senior lady-in-waiting at the court, is jealous of Onoe, a middle ranking lady-in-waiting. Iwafuji's challenge causes the noble Onoe to commit suicide. The maid Ohatsu is so offended by the death of her mistress that eventually she eventually kills Iwafuji. The lord of the land hears the full story and raises Ohatsu to the position that her mistress Onoe held.
