Biography:

This actor held this name from 11/1763 until his death on the third day of the seventh month of 1777. His father-in-law was Nakamura Kanzaburō VI (1688-1757). His wife was the sister of Ichikawa Yaozō I. He studied with Ichikawa Danjūrō IV (1711-78) and with Nakamura Denkurō II (1719-77; aka Kenzaburō VIII).

When Yaozō II performed in the role of Sukeroku there is a scene where he has to jump into a barrel of water set up on the stage. His performance was said to be so captivating that after the play the water from that scene was bottled and sold to female fans.
