Biography:
This Edo artist was active from ca. 1818 or earlier to 1843.
"Shunshō II was originally a pupil of Shun'ei, using the name Matsui Shunkō (written with a different character for 'kō' from Shunshō I's famous pupil). In 1832, the fortieth anniversary of Shunshō I's death and the thirteenth anniversary of Shun'ei's death, he took the name Shunshō II and the gō Kyokushōsei in imitation of Shunshō I's gō Kyokurōsei. He is known principally for actor and warrior prints..."
