Biography:

This actor held this name from 4/1819 to 6/1845. He was adopted by Ichikawa Danzō IV (1745-1808) and in turn Danzō V adopted Ichikawa Danzō VI, Ichikawa Danzaburō V and Ichikawa Danzaburō VI.

"Ichikawa Danzō V was an outstanding tachiyaku, the worthy heir of his adoptive father Ichikawa Danzō IV. He gave importance to realism in his way of acting. He adopted several of his adoptive father's roles as his own, like Shunkan in the drama "Heike Nyogo-ga-Shima", but was also able to play onnagata or katakiyaku roles. He excelled in wajitsu, budōgoto and jitsugotoshi roles."

The Kamigata Ukiyo-e Museum wrote that Danzō V "...became a disciple of Ichikawa Ichizō I (Ichikawa Ebijurō I), who was a disciple of Ichikawa Danzō V, and took the name Ichikawa Morinosuke. He was later adopted by Ichikawa Danzō IV, and took the name Ichikawa Danzaburō IV. While he was in Edo, his adoptive father, Ichikawa Danzaburō IV, died. He returned to Osaka from Edo and gained a good reputation, changing his name to Ichikawa Ichibei I. In 1819, he took the name Ichikawa Danzō V. He fell ill in 1844, and died the following year."
