The first three kanji characters of this figure identify him as a sumō wrestler: 角力取 or sumotori.


Izutsu Menosuke is a character who appears in the stories about Nikki Danjō.


There is a 1913, silent film, from Japan with the title 'Izutsu Menosuke', starring Onoe Matsunosuke (1875-1926: 尾上松之助). It was based on a script by Namiroku Murakami.
